Kent Barn 02
Extension to a family home in a historic setting.
Situated within the Kent Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and designated Green Belt, this extended family home was originally an artists studio in the grounds of the neighbouring Grade II listed Camer House.
The property is extended with a two storey volume which follows the gabled form of the original artist’s studio. Completing one side of the historic courtyard, the extension provides additional living space, a bathroom, and two new bedrooms.
The architectural language of the new form borrows from the outhouses, stables and ancillary accommodation of the manor house. This semi-agricultural setting has informed the material choices of corrugated metal and timber cladding. Red hues resonate with the studio’s material palette and the natural tones of the surrounding landscape.
Contemporary glazing maximises views over the ancient tree-lined boundary, and strengthens the connection to the historic landscape.
